1) What is the IELTS ?

IELTS is the International English Language Testing System. Each year, approximately two million candidates take the exam. It is currently the world's most popular exam for study, work, and migration. There are more than 1.100 exam centers and locations in over 140 countries.


2) Which organizations recognize the IELTS exam?

The exam is accepted by more than 9.000 organizations such as universities, colleges, immigration departments,  government agencies, and companies.


3) Who owns and writes the IELTS?

IELTS is jointly owned by British Council, IDP: IELTS Australia and Cambridge English.


British Council is the UK's international organization for educational opportunity and cultural relations, and has offices in more than 100 countries worldwide.


IELTS Australia Pty Ltd is is a subsidiary of IDP Education Ltd, which is one of the world's leading international education organizations, and IDP has over 100 centers in more than 40 countries.


Cambridge English Language Assessment offers exams that are recognized by over 13,500  organizations worldwide. The exams are taken by over 4 million people each year in more than one-hundred thirty countries.


4) Why are there two types of exams?

Academic exam is designed for those who want to study at a university in an English-speaking country, and the General Training exam is for those who want to do work experience or training programs, secondary school or migrate to an English-speaking country.


5) What help is available for candidates with disabilities?

Please, contact your local examination center as each examination center offers different services.


6) How many English skills are examined through the IELTS exam?

Four: listening, writing, speaking, and reading.


7) Does the IELTS accept Canadian, Australian, or American English?

Yes, it does.


8) Which skills are examined on the same day?

Listening, reading, and writing are assessed on the same day, yet speaking exams may be before, after, or on the same day as the other skills.


9) Can I wear my watch on the exam day?

No, you you are not allowed to wear a watch.


10) How many times can I re-take the exam?

There is no limit; however, the academic version of the exam is available on  forty-eight dates each year while the general version of the exam is available on only 24 dates.


11) Is there a break for reading , listening, and writing exams?

No, there are not any breaks.  Eat well before you take the exam because listening, reading, and writing exams last for two hours forty-five minutes.


12) Can I use a pen?

No, you need to write your answers using a pencil.

 Price of a-computer-based-IELTS exam is 60.000 KZT for Astana until April 2019. After April 2019, the test fee for a-computer-based exam will be 65.000 KZT.


On the other hand, the test fee for a paper-based-IELTS exam will be 55.000 KZT from April 1, 2019 onwards.


Your IELTS exam results will be ready approximately two weeks after a paper-based test and about 5-7 days after a computer-based test.


3) What if I need to postpone or cancel my application?

If you postpone/cancel your initial application more than five weeks before the exam date, you will receive a refund, yet an administration charge will be deducted from your initial payment.


4) What if I am sick on the exam day?

you will receive a refund, but an administration charge will be deducted from your initial payment if you have a medical certificate. However, in order to be eligible for a refund, you need to provide a medical certificate within 5 days of the exam date.

1) When will I be able to receive the results?

Two weeks after the exam date


2) I took the exam twice. Which result will be valid?

You can choose whichever you want as long as they are not older two years.


3) How many years will my result/results be valid?

Two years


4) How are exams evaluated?

Candidates are graded on their performance in the exam, using scores from 1 to 9 for each part of the exam.


5) How are the listening and reading exams graded?

There are 40 questions in both listening and reading exams. For example, 30 correct answers in a listening exam will be equal to 7.0
